Nova IVF Fertility Ratlam Organizes Walkathon on Women’s Day to tackle stigma on infertility

•    There is a lot of stigma associated with infertility and misconceptions that infertility only happens to women, and they get blamed for it
•    Fertility Specialists at Nova IVF Fertility Ratlam say that 40% of infertility is due to male factor and 40% is due to female factor
Ratlam, 7th March, 2025 – On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Nova IVF Fertility, Ratlam, organized a walkathon to tackle stigma associated with infertility.  The walkathon also aimed to remove misconceptions associated with infertility such as infertility is only due to female factor.  The Chief Guests for the event were Mayor of Ratlam, Shri Prahlad Patel and Dr Anita Mutha , Dean, Government Medical  College of Ratlam.  Over 100 participants supported for the cause.

Infertility is no longer a problem in big cities and is seen even in tier 2 regions like Ratlam. Fertility Specialists at Nova IVF Fertility, Ratlam, are witnessing this among couples aged below 30 years as well. Environmental and lifestyle factors could influence this trend. 2-3 out of 10 women with infertility suffer from severe PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), and 4 out of 10 women have poor egg quality and count). Male infertility is also significant increasing, with nearly 35-40% of cases linked to poor sperm count and quality.  Pesticide exposure in agricultural areas can also lead to reduced sperm count in men, whereas women have declining ovarian reserve. This could be due to poor nutrition, sedentary lifestyle, environmental toxins, stress, screen exposure. Lesser importance is given to balanced diet, physical activity, maintaining a healthy lifestyle and seeking medical help for reproductive health.

Speaking at the event, Dr Shruti Shetty, Fertility Specialist at Nova IVF Fertility, Ratlam, said, “Unlike other medical conditions, couples with infertility face a lot of stigma in the society. Although the male-female ratio of infertility patients seems to have increased recently, the female partner faces a lot of pressure and psychological stress.  It is crucial that families and society must support couples to get the right treatment and guidance from fertility specialists.”

Treatment results may be enhanced by early detection of infertility and timely consultation with fertility specialists. Dr Kalyani Shrimali, Clinical Director and Senior Fertility Specialist at Nova IVF Fertility, Indore and Ratlam mentioned that “According to WHO (World Health Organisation), couples less than 35yr old who have been trying to conceive for over a year  but could not conceive are considered to be infertile. Also, women above 35 years trying to conceive for 6 months should be consulting a fertility specialist, to undergo evaluation and treatment for the same. As age increases, fertility also may decline. Couples may improve their chances of getting pregnant by exploring various treatment choices when they seek medical guidance at the right time.”
Along with the staff at Nova IVF Fertility the event witnessed participation from students of  Gatewell Nursing College, Government Medical College, and Ratlam Nursing Coaching Institute. The Guests of Honour were Dr Naved Anjum Qureshi, Mrs Sheetal Saraf (Principal) from Gatewell Nursing College, Ratlam, Dr Darshana Jain (Assistant professor) from Government Medical  College Ratlam and Director Pankaj Panchal from Ratlam Nursing Coaching Institute.
